With a storage capacity of around 2 billion cubic metres of working gas, EWE GASSPEICHER GmbH is one of the largest storage operators on the German and European natural gas market. The storage capacity of the company headquartered in Oldenburg in Lower Saxony is divided between natural gas cavern storage facilities in Nüttermoor, Jemgum, and Huntorf in north-western Germany and in Rüdersdorf near Berlin.
Innovative storage products
Our company has its origins in EWE ENERGIE AG, which transferred its gas storage division to EWE GASSPEICHER GmbH. We are a wholly owned subsidiary of EWE AG.

These products are continually improved and enhanced to meet customer and market needs in the best possible way. In addition, our customers benefit from more than 50 years of experience in the construction and operation of modern natural gas storage facilities.
Constancy in management
The managing director of EWE GASSPEICHER GmbH is Peter Schmidt.
He has more than three decades of experience in the industry and has been with EWE AG since 2004, where, in addition to roles in investment management and controlling, he served as the managing director of Bremen-based Aequamus GmbH. In 2011 he was first appointed deputy head of the gas storage division at EWE ENERGIE AG, then, in 2012, managing director of EWE GASSPEICHER GmbH. Peter Schmidt graduated in business administration from the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster.
